Outstanding Graphics
Ubisoft developed the Dunia Engine specifically for Far Cry 2. Among other things, the Dunia Engine delivers realistic, interactive environments, special effects, real-time night-and-day cycles, and smart enemy AI.

Expansive, Realistic Environment
Far Cry 2 is set in a fictional region of Africa where you are caught between two rival factions at war. The Ubisoft team spent a lot of time filming and photographing in Africa to get all the details of the landscape and native wildlife. The result is a huge gameplay area that is 50 square kilometers, taking players into and out of the jungle and savannah. Wild animals such as zebras, buffalo, gazelle are encountered during the game, with both players and enemies allowed to interact with them.

Far Cry 2 features an incredible level of detail and realism, with a minimal in-game interface to detract from immersion. For example, players will need to navigate the world using an in-game map and navigation system, weapons will disintegrate over time, and fires will spread and propagate.

Each of the actions a player takes is reflected in the environment and changes the content of the game. To fulfill your mission, you need to play the enemies against each other, using both strategy and skill.

Huge Range of Weapons and Vehicles
Far Cry 2 offers gamers a wide range of weapons, from a machete for hand-to-hand combat, to a sniper rifle that can stealthily pluck off enemies from afar. As weapons disintegrate over time, they might jam or even explode in your hand.

There are also a large range of vehicles such as gliders, trucks, cars, and boats that will let you fly, drive, slide, and hover over the open landscapes.

Multiplayer Options for up to 16 Players
Far Cry 2 supports up to 16 players and has four gameplay modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond, and Uprising. Players can choose from six different classes in multiplayer, each with its own set of pros and cons. Just as in the single-player mode, multiplayer games will feature dynamic elements, making each session unique.

5 out of 5 stars FARCRY 2   December 7, 2008

3 out of 3 found this review helpful

Far Cry 2 improve graphic video game with normal close photography alike. Thrill to hunt for diamonds by diamond tracker on air boats, vehicles and hand held devices. Troublesome to face surprise outlaw milita on vehicles attack to me anywhere I go to drive on offroad roads. Drive through beautiful Africa country view along with wild aminals roam. Trill ride on air boat through canyons. Hike to numbers of trails. Nice view at water falls. Have to work on mission duties by order from APR HQ and UFLL HQ to processing mission games and fun to drive both vehicles or air boats at same time hunt for diamonds during misson trips. Yeah it is fun mission games and really have to do lot lot on mission tasks to play all way to end of game. Obtain good troublefree weapons at weapon shops, extra first aids and ammunition before go for missions. Suggest to buy Prima offical game guide and read some mission informations that will help you understand to processing missions game and after that, not need to depend on guide book at all after you get use to find update mission tasks anywhere you go folow on map.

I like Far Cry 2, long game to end, about two to three weeks to finish game.

5 out of 5 stars FC2 multiplayer getting better but still needs a patch   December 30, 2008
Brian Pro
I give this game 5 stars because I don't think it's been given a fair review since it was last patched. Yes, they should've never released it early and unpolished but this is becoming part of the business of video games $$$. Crysis was the same way if you remember. If you're like me you will love this game for the multiplayer action (NOT SINGLE PLAYER). I have my own dedicated server and host my own custom maps and others (there are literally millions created with the easy to use map editor).

There are 2 flavors of MP and many game modes to chose from including deathmatch and capture the diamond.
Ranked and Player break down for noobs: Ranked matches compute and store your rank and award you diamonds. If you are new to MP use the quick match to join a game.

The MP matches allow you to unlock weapon upgrades by earning XP points. After 5-20 matches of ranked matches and you should move up in rank and earn a single diamond. The most noticable problems with the online game is when joining a ranked match you are ejected from the host and returned to main menu. ???This is frustrating and patch 1.02 did not fix this at it claimed. If you join a Player match then you can stay on same server and enjoy the map rotation without getting kicked. Also, with the accumalation of points, diamonds and rank doesn't always "save" to UBI. The game will tell you "you have been promoted" and nothing has changed. Hey, where are my diamonds? Some other annoying peculiarties of the game are -weapons need accuracy and strength adjustment. For example, the M-249 is a powerful weapon in real life and in this game it's nowhere near as powerful like it was in Crytek's original FPS. I remember dominating with the saw in FC1. My favorite weapons and the ones that everyone uses on this game are the 3 diamond upgrades except for the SAW as I stated before. I will list the advantages and disadvantes of this game. It is worth purchasing if you enjoy making maps or you like to pwn noobs.

-Mapping and Modding

Pros: Fantastic map editor-so easy a cave man can do it.
an 8 yr old can throw a map together in < hour.

Cons: Repetitive maps are starting to surface due to limitations of the map editor. Like the same houses and buildings on every map bah! eh ok. Custom maps will start to look the same if they don't introduce mods. UBI has not released an SDK to unlock the game's dat files.
Overall, the single player is very boring and I don't recommend you waster your time. Multiplayer on the other hand is enjoyable. 1.02 is a step in right direction and it does fix certain issues like when you join a custom match you can pick and choose from a server list. The publisher needs to add some more functionality for hosting an online game server with a help guide manual and a switch to change map directories. UBI developers should also to listen to the community of far cry 2 players who want to make this a great game. I hope you liked my review!

5 out of 5 stars I like it   January 5, 2009
R. Sweeney
I usually don't write too many reviews but I do like this game and feel it's better than Far Cry in every way, I like the daytime passing and all the graphic improvements and although the missions get a little tedious I find the open ended game play makes the game as interesting as you are @ being creative. The AI have certain behavior that is predictable but they actual look for cover and move around so they can be a challenge to hit.

There are actually 2 separate world maps that are huge and are a work of art in themselves. Just make sure you have a top shelf video card otherwise it will probably play like Cyrsis did when it came out.

I have all the options maxed and only get about 40-60 FPS w/ 2 9800's in sli. So the game is a bit of a beast- hardware wise.

I only played the multiplayer on LAN and although quite different then the single player maps it was fun , plus my FPS shot up well over 100 FPS.
My son made a couple of great maps in a couple of hours and a few not so good ones but I was impressed with the editor that comes with the game.

I bought COD World @ War also and find this game to be so much better as the sound actually is descent and compared to the scripted linear single player game in World @ War it's a better game. Make sure you put on the 1.2 patch that enables 5.1 sound which actually works. In W@W I was so disappointed by the lack of 3d sound and any patches or support even 2 months after it's release that I quit playing it even though I bought it just for the multiplayer- too many bugs and no patches...

If you want a game you can play for a while, not finish in a day, don't mind driving around during & between missions and have the video power, you'll probably like the game.

I really like driving the boats on the extensive river system. The whole game to me is next gen and fresh.

5 out of 5 stars Better then expected!   January 8, 2009
Herbert Freeman (Ilion, NY USA)
Far Cry 2 ...way better gaming expirience than expected.
This is the first game that has "free roaming" down to a science!
You are not bound by any rails or rail like missions, excellent!

The graphics are superb and rival those of Crysis, but without the drag on your PC's resources.

Initially the learning curve to figure out how to approach and obtain missions was a bit difficult, but after a few minutes with the game, became second nature.

Replay value is equally high. Overall a rewarding expirience for the casual and hard core gamer alike!

Well done. Worth every dollar!

The well hyped DRM/securom did not bother this reviewer a bit and remained well in the background without causing any problems.
